Prior to joining PIMCO, he served as Managing Director, Co-Head of the Tax-Exempt Department for Western Asset Management Company. Previously he was Managing Director, Head of Tax-Exempt Investments for Smith Barney/Citigroup Asset Management from 1993 to 2005. Earlier in his career, he held senior portfolio management positions with Shearson and E.F. Hutton. Morningstar named him Fixed-Income Manager of the Year in 1996 and a finalist in 1995 and 2007. He holds a bachelor's degree from Iona College.

Mr. Cummings was a Vice President in Municipal bond trading at Goldman Sachs from 1997-2002. He was the head of Municipal trading at E.A. Moos from 1994-1997. John was also associated with R.J. Walls & Co. and Mabon Nugent. Mr. Cummings earned a B.A. from Rutgers College in 1983 and a M.B.A. from Rutgers University in 1990.

His career has included experience in investment banking and venture-capital management. He also served as an investment department head of Pacific Mutual. His 37 years of investment experience includes both fixed income and equity markets. Ehlert holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
